FILM 8: LOVE ACTUALLY

Love Actually. The film that Will Self described as more emotionally manipulative than Triumph Of The Will. And since he was referring to "When the planes hit the twin towers, the phone calls from the planes weren't messages of hate and revenge, they were messages of love", it's hard to argue. Although I've heard talk of that line, it's really quite astonishing to hear it for real. I suppose "Fear, Actually" isn't quite what he was aiming for.
Also, Emma Thompson phoning up Liam Neeson saying how sorry she is to hear about his wife dying caused a sharp intake of breath, but that's not really Richard Curtis' fault. Probably.

Well, what a jolly start that was. Let's keep it lighthearted for now.

Ooh look, it's Hugh Grant again! And he's doing a Tony Blair! We all love Tony Blair!!

This is turning out to be quite a Hugh Grant heavy night. And, not wanting to pre-empt my wife's choices, I have a sneaking suspicion that this might not be my last Hugh Grant film of the night. Or Colin Firth. Do you see? Maybe the sequel will have Warren Clarke playing Gordon Brown, trying to dryhump Pam St.Clement instead of that Tiffany.

Babbling again. Let's 'enjoy' the 'film'.

  1. It is definitely going to be a Hugh Grant/Colin Firth night, because they are practically the rulers of the Rom Com Empire. I would assume that Notting Hill is going to be in the list? And maybe even What A Girl Wants, in which Colin Firth squirms in really tight leather pants.

  2. Sadly I've already seen Notting Hill, and indeed work in Notting Hill. Every day I scowl at people standing outside "that shop" with polaroid cameras, it's one of life's small pleasures.

If I don't watch a film beginning with "Bridget" and ending in "Jones"... actually, ending with "Diary", possibly also ending in "2", I'll be secretly disappointed.

  3. Nooooo honestly the movie with 2 in the title will twist your melons man....it's awful...I mean dire. Love Actually would win Best Picture Oscar in comparison....trust me, there are funny bits in this one...you got off lightly for the midnight shift.

I shall send funds in the morning when I've seen the complete list of films you've endured.

  7. I think you should sell your idea for a sequel, I think they'd buy it.....you may as well profit a bit from what you are going through.

  8. I think Gordon Brown may be the wrong sex for Pat St Clement.....doesnt she go out with either Moira Stewart or Joan Armatrading....she's lives round here, I see her shopping every now and again....she always seems to have such comfortable shoes.....try Babs Windsor instead, she's out of a job just now.
